Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could enable the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight players to form the Explorers and Planners tables.

Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
